Brief description: Innovative research projects in clinical cancer research and basic oncology. Only one applicant, consortia might be funded through the program ‘Translational Oncology’. Volume and duration of the proposal is in the range of standard DFG-funded projects. First-time application should be indicated and will be taken into account during evaluation. A proposal for funding of high-content screens also has to be developed on a mechanistic question, has to describe its uniqueness, and has to describe the embedding within the necessary infrastructure to execute the screen and analyze the data.

Target group: postdocs (2 – 4 years experience to set up a small group), junior group leaders

Funding period: 24 months with possible extension for another 12 months

Deadline: twice a year (February and September)

Brief description: Possible to apply for personnel costs, travel costs, consumables, animal costs (similar to a standard DFG research grant in size). Overheads will not be granted. The foundation focuses on ‘molecular causes in the development of illnesses’. Preference is given to projects analyzing the function of genes and gene products also employing human material, established animal models, and studies towards personalized medicine. It is not possible to apply for funding one’s own position, and firmly established researchers are not eligible (holders of chairs, directors etc.); postdocs and junior group leaders are eligible.

Brief description: A three-year grant allows Fellows to concentrate on their research projects related to children and youth. Scholars who engage in interdisciplinary work on individual development and learning of children and youth, and who seek to combine genetic, epigenetic, neurobiological, behavioral and social levels of analysis, are particularly encouraged to apply. The Ideal candidate has obtained his/her PhD no more than 15 years ago. 400.000 SFr over 3 years.

Brief description: The initiative addresses researchers who want to put a potentially transformative and risky research idea to the test. They are given the opportunity to demonstrate preliminary evidence for a concept’s potential during an exploratory phase, which is limited to 18 months and up to 120.000 Euro. Innovative, cutting-edge projects at the forefront of any given field of research are not to be supported since they might be funded through other conventional funding lines. Funds can be used for personnel and non-personnel costs including the own position. It is also possible to file collaborative applications. Overheads are not covered. Funding rate about 8%.

Brief description: The foundation looks for outstanding projects at the interface between natural and life sciences investigating the principles of life. Single or integrative joint projects worth up to 1.500.000 Euro with up to five partners, also international partners. The partners are working at the interface between natural and life sciences whose projects hold promise of producing novel findings on principles of life.
