On March 23rd from 18 to 20 h, a public lecture will be held at the International Centre for Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities (IZEW) at the University Tübingen on the topic “Abolishing Ageing?”. The talk will be given by biogerontologist Professor David Gems (London), who will present the new biology of ageing and the future chances of medical intervention into biological ageing processes of humans.
This event kicks off the project „Diskurs: Biogerontologie“ (Discourse: Biogerontology), which has started in February 2012 at the IZEW and the Institute for Ethics and History of Medicine of the University Tübingen. This is a project designed to advance the discussion in science on ethical, legal and social questions of biological research on ageing and to reach the public with this debate.
One of the numerous project partners is the Leibniz Institute for Age Research - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) in Jena. FLI’s Research Coordinator, Dr. Wilfried Briest, will take part in the kick-off-meeting.
The one-year project „Diskurs: Biogerontologie“ is financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Within this framework, classes for university students of different fields of study will be developed, where ethical, legal and social questions of biogerontology will be discussed.
