Festive symposium to mark the farewell of Prof. Nordheim

On June 20, 2024, a celebratory symposium titled "Horizons in Aging Research" will take place to mark the farewell of Prof. Alfred Nordheim. Prof. Nordheim served as the Scientific Director at the Leibniz Institute on Aging - Fritz Lipmann Institute from March 2018 to December 2023. Among his closest associates, Nordheim's contributions to research at the FLI will be acknowledged and celebrated.

The symposium will feature presentations and acknowledgments from Prof. Peter Herrlich (former research group leader and Scientific Director at the FLI from 2003 to 2011), Prof. Otto Witte and Prof. Christian Hübner (Medical Director and Institute Director at the University Hospital Jena), Dr. Maria Ermolaeva (Research Group Leader at FLI), Prof. Tassula Proikas-Cezanne (University of Tübingen), Prof. Nisar Malek (University Hospital Tübingen), Prof. Dario Riccardo Valenzano (Acting Scientific Director at FLI), Burkhard Zinner (TMWWDG) and Dr. Daniele Barthel (Administrative Director at FLI). Prof. Alfred Nordheim himself will deliver a speech.

The molecular and cell biologist currently holds the Chair of Molecular Biology at the Interfaculty Institute of Cell Biology (IFIZ) at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. From 2005 to 2009, Prof. Nordheim served as President of the German Society for Genetics (GfG). He also held the office of President of the International Genetics Federation (IGF; Melbourne, Australia) from 2008 to 2013.

He has been an elected member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) since 1991. In 1992, Prof. Nordheim was awarded the Max Planck Research Prize alongside Prof. Robert Allan Weinberg (Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, Massachusetts). Additionally, Prof. Nordheim co-founded the biotechnology company ProteoSys AG, Mainz.
