Jena’s application as „City of Science 2008“ came out ahead, Beutenberg Campus and its institutes participated in the application process.
In the final round of the competition, which had been initiated by the “Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft”, Jena was able to leave Brandenburg’s capital Potsdam behind. Now Jena will receive 250 000 Euro from the Stifterverband to advance projects which will portray the achievements of science and research in public. Joachim Treusch, chairman of the jury, explained that Jena had convincingly presented itself as an aspiring city which successfully aims at attracting young scientists.
