News

From September 22nd to 26th, the FLI participated in the Science Festival „Highlights der Physik”, which took place at Eichplatz, Jena. The FLI was represented by Birgit Perner (research group Englert) with a booth on “Biophotonics - Luminous Fish”.

The FLI presented a Zeiss Microscope of the latest generation by means of which the heart beats and blood circulation of zebrafish embryos could be observed. Birgit Perner of the Engert Research Group further explained the importance of fluorescence microscopy to study the development of organs like the kidney. Hundreds and hundreds of interested students and citizens went to the FLI booth to learn about biophotonic methods and to have a look through the eyepieces of the Zeiss microscope.

The Science Festival "Highlights der Physik" has been organized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) since 2001 and is hosted by a different city every year. In 2015, the overall topic was "Lichtspiele“, focussing the booth topics, speeches and events on light and optical technologies.
