This year’s PhD celebration was held at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena on June 29th 2012 as part of “Schiller day”. During this occasion, all graduates of the preceding year (1st April 2011 - 31rd March 2012) from the following faculties received their doctoral diplomas: Faculty for Economics, Philosophical Faculty, Faculty for Social and Behavioural Sciences and Faculty for Biology and Pharmacy.
Besides the PhD sponsorship award of the association Alumni Jenenses e.V.and the Habilitation award of the FSU Jena, four PhD Awards were bestowed to outstanding PhD theses from each of these faculties.
Alexander Rauch from the Leibniz Institute for Age Research was honoured with the coveted PhD Award 2012 (750 Euro) for his dissertation "Glucocorticoid receptor action in bone tissue integrity".
Alexander worked on his thesis in Jan Tuckerman’s research group from March 2008 to March 2011.
