The Thüringer Forschungspreis 2018 for outstanding achievements in basic research was awarded to researchers of the Leibniz Institute on Aging – Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) on 24 April.
The researchers received the coveted award for their work on the Nothobranchius furzeri fish. Since this small fish from Africa ages much faster than humans, it is an attractive model system for aging research. By sequencing and analysing its genome, the researchers are providing insights into a novel animal model that enables an analysis of the ageing process in vertebrates - a milestone for ageing research.
The State of Thuringia honors outstanding achievements in research at universities and other research institutions in the state of Thuringia with the Thüringer Forschungspreis once a year.
Congratulations!
