Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds – PhD fellowships
Target group: PhD students; European citizens working in Europe or overseas, and to non-European citizens pursuing their PhD project in Europe

Brief description: For ambitious PhD projects; to promote basic research in biomedicine by providing the best young, up-and-coming scientists with comprehensive support during their PhD phase.

Deutsche Krebshilfe – PhD fellowship
Target group: MD students
Funding period: 12 months
Deadline: twice a year (April, September)
Brief description: Applicants study medicine, are generally below 25 years of age, have passed their first state exam, and plan to execute a research project in a renowned research laboratory in Germany. The foundation supports the applicant with 1.000 Euro per months and can contribute up to 5.000 Euro for costs on research animals and consumables. The fellow should also be integrated in a local graduate school to allow a structured PhD program.

Brief description: Supported topics change from year to year. Bachelors and masters theses: six months, 250–600 euros/month. In addition, applications can be submitted for funding of the purchase of research literature and attendance of scientific congresses.

Brief description: To enable German and Israeli scientists and researchers to spend longer-term research residencies at institutions in the respective other country. Eligible PhD student candidates must have completed a university degree. Candidates for Postdoc fellowships must not have completed their thesis more than seven years ago. Parental leave will be taken into account. Applicants who are presently residing in Israel/Germany but are not nationals of either of the two countries must show a proven record of integration into the Israeli or German scientific community. Applications are open to all institutional affiliations; there is no bias towards Max Planck Institute affiliates.
Schlumberger Foundation – Faculty for the Future Fellowship
Target group: female PhD students and postdocs
Funding period: 12 months (with possibility for extension)

Brief description: For women from developing countries doing interdisciplinary research projects (note: dual citizenship might affect eligibility). There are no age limits. Candidates should plan to return to their home country after completion of the project to facilitate knowledge transfer.
