Brief description: Every year, the Daimler and Benz Foundation awards ten scholarships to exceptional postdoctoral students, assistant professors, and young managers of new research projects. Our goal is to support the autonomy and creativity of our next generation of academics and to help committed researchers as they begin their postdoctoral academic careers. The recipients receive scholarships of €20,000 a year for two years to finance research assistants, technical equipment, research trips and attendance at conferences. By hosting gatherings for the steadily increasing network of scholarship recipients in Ladenburg, the Daimler and Benz Foundation also provides a forum for the exchange of interdisciplinary ideas.

Brief description: The eligible fellowship candidates are life scientists or medics working in basic oncology and clinical cancer research that want to realize a project in a renowned institution abroad. Brief description: HFSP postdoctoral fellowships encourage early career scientists to broaden their research skills by moving into new areas of study while working in a new country. Fellows may choose to stay for up to three years in the host country or use the last year of their fellowship to return to their home country or to move to another HFSPO member country. Long-Term Fellowships (LTF) are for applicants with a Ph.D. in a biological discipline, who will broaden their expertise by proposing a project in the life sciences, which is significantly different from their previous Ph.D. or postdoctoral work. Cross-Disciplinary Fellowships (CDF) are for applicants with a Ph.D. from outside the life sciences (e.g. in physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering or computer sciences), who have had limited exposure to biology during their previous training. Applications are possible up to three years post PhD with extensions for maternity leaves. The fellowship includes living, research, travel, and relocation allowances.

Brief description: For medical specialists under 35 years of age who want to work at a German hospital after at least two years of scientific research work, preferably abroad, to intensify their research work and strive to complete their residency at the same time. Applicants and the host hospital make a commitment to exclusively conduct research work during the first year. The residency can start afterwards but it must be geared towards scientific effectiveness for two more years in total through intermittent leave. The funding of 210.000 Euro is intended for a three-year period and to finance their own position and material expenses. It is paid out in two installments where the payment of the second half of the amount is tied to the approval of an application for further research funding by a third institution, for example the DFG, after 18 months.

Applicants who are presently residing in Israel/Germany but are not nationals of either of the two countries must show a proven record of integration into the Israeli or German scientific community. Applications are open to all institutional affiliations; there is no bias towards Max Planck Institute affiliates.

Stipend rate is 1.800€/month plus a possible lump sum of 200€/month for travel and material. Child supplements can be applied for (400€/month)

Innovative, cutting-edge projects at the forefront of any given field of research are not to be supported since they might be funded through other conventional funding lines.
