Alexander Rauch from the Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) in Jena, who wrote his dissertation from Mach 2008 to March 2011 in Jan Tuckermann’s research group, was one of the ten nominees for this year’s award, who were invited to the opening event of the annual meeting of the Leibniz Association on November 28th 2012 at the Museum of Natural History - Leibniz Institute for Evolution and Biodiversity Research.

During the introduction of the ten nominees, Alexander was described as an “exceptional PhD-student” who is “active in a number of facets of academic life” and excels by “outstanding achievements and original, thought provoking impulses”. For that reason he has already been honoured with numerous poster awards, stipends and other awards, e.g. with a travel grant to take part in the renowned “EMBO Conference on Nuclear Receptors” in Spain or the attendance of the meeting of Nobel Prize winners in Lindau. He has already filed a patent application as well.

Alexander, who has been working at the University of Southern Denmark / Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology since 2012, has been awarded the PhD Award 2012 of Jena University for his outstanding dissertation "Glucocorticoid receptor action in bone tissue integrity".
