On September 10th, 2012, the Leibniz Association was introduced to the Scientific Community within the course of a “German Science Evening” in Washington DC.

On September 10th, 2012, the Leibniz Association was introduced to the Scientific Community within the course of a “German Science Evening” in Washington DC.

 

Karl Ulrich Mayer, president of the Leibniz Association, gave an overview of the association and pointed out the attractive career opportunities offered by the 86 institutes of the Leibniz Association. As a representative of the sciences within the association Karl Lenhard Rudolph, Scientific Director of the Leibniz Institute for Age Research - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) in Jena, Germany - gave a talk on the correlation between stem cells, age and cancer (“Delaying Decline: The Relationship between Stem Cells, Aging, and Cancer.”)

The event was held at the premises of the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft), with representatives of the National Cancer Institute, the National Science Foundation, the Carnegie Institute for Science, the Georgetown University Medical Center and the Alliance for Aging Research present. The "German Science Evening" was supported by the German Embassy in Washington and by the German Center for Research and Innovation, New York.
